Jeg synes Norge burde sørge for at disse fikk en rettferdig rettsak. Jeg ville følt meg mye tryggere om jeg visste at Norge ville hjulpet meg om jeg hadde havnet i en slik "rettsak".
Jeg har så vidt lest om Don Pacifico affæren i det 1800-århundre. Don Pacrifico bodde i Hellas, og han og familien fikk hus og eiendom ødelagt av en rasende mobb. Don ba om erstatning fra staten, men fikk ikke.
Don var født på Gibraltar oghadde britisk pass og således britisk borger, derfor ba han Lord Palmerston, den engelske utenriksministeren, om hjelp. Lord Palmerston svarte med å sende den britiske marinen i Middelhavet til Athen og truet med å sprenge havnen, om han ikke fikk en unnskyldning og Don fikk erstatning. De fikk begge deler, men Lord Palmerston fikk kraftig kritikk for sin oppførsel. Han holdt en forsvarstale i Parlamentet i 5 timer uten manus, og avsluttet med:
I therefore fearlessly challenge the verdict which this House, as representing a political, a commercial, a constitutional country, is to give on the question now brought before it; whether the principles on which the foreign policy of Her Majesty's Government has been conducted, and the sense of duty which has led us to think ourselves bound to afford protection to our fellow subjects abroad, are proper and fitting guides for those who are charged with the Government of England; and whether, as the Roman, in days of old, held himself free from indignity, when he could say Civis Romanus sum; so also a British subject, in whatever land he may be, shall feel confident that the watchful eye and the strong arm of England, will protect him against injustice and wrong.
For disse ordene ble meget populær blandt folket, og i 1855 ble han statsminister.
