Very dark glasses means people can’t see your eyes. The eyes are probably the most important body part of any human, you can see happiness in someone’s eyes, you can see sadness , you can see all kinds of emotions.
When you have dark glasses nobody can see your eyes and that means they can’t see your emotions. That’s why it makes you look more “Cool”.
Cool means less emotional. It may sound weird but think about it, if someone is loud and nervous he’s showing a lot of emotions, if he is calm and doesn’t show emotions he is “Cool”. Also people use the word cool not only for people, they use it for situations and objects. If something is cool it means people are comfortable and calm around it.
Now it doesn’t mean that people will see you as someone with no emotions or they will think you are Terminator, an alien from another planet that has come to kill everybody, most (MATURE) people will not judge someone just because of his glasses, so don’t overthink it.

Your eyes say a lot.
How confident or insecure someone is, if it isn't conveyed by their body language, will be conveyed with their eyes; how long they can keep eye contact, where they look during a conversation, etc.
Sunglasses take that away and give the impression of a continuous gaze. Not only that, but you genuinely can't tell whether someone is looking you in the eye or not, making many people more insecure in conversation cause they think they're being looked at even when they're not.
Their insecurity in turn makes the other person appear more confident (and possibly more attractive.)
That's my "theory" at least.

The etiquette around wearing sunglasses indoors is that it is generally considered rude to wear them around other people without taking them off.

Whether you intend them to or not, your eyes provide non-verbal feedback in a conversation. When you wear sunglasses, you remove those visual clues from the people with which you are conversing. You don’t have to look people in the eyes to convey that you’re paying attention, but without being able to see the eyes of the people you’re talking to, you can’t be sure how they may be reacting to what you’re saying.
